 POVERTY: A GLOBAL CHALLENGE

Poverty is a plight in which an individual or a faction of individuals lacks the monetary capital and essentials for maintaining a basic standard of living.

How many people live in poverty in the world?








According to the census report of the World Bank, about 9.2% of the world, or 702 million people, live in extreme poverty on less than $1.90 a day.

Since 2015, the World Bank has defined extreme poverty as individuals living on less than $1.90 a day, measured using the international poverty line. But extreme poverty is not only about low income, it's also about what individuals can or cannot afford.
Extreme poverty is identified in two types: 
  • Absolute poverty
  • Relative poverty

Absolute Poverty:

Absolute poverty is when an individual can achieve the basic nutrition, clothing, or shelter needs in their country. Absolute poverty means poverty defined using a global baseline with no reference to other people's income or access to goods. The failure of meeting this baseline thus means that the individual is extremely poor.












Relative Poverty:

Relative poverty is a situation in which a household income is below a certain percentage, typically around 50% or 60%, of the median income of that country. This measurement takes into consideration the subjective cost of participating in everyday life. For example, the shower is a necessity in some places, without a shower, a person could be considered impoverished. But, in other places shower is a luxury. Relative poverty is useful for considering income inequality within a country.

WAYS TO ERADICATE POVERTY:-

  • CHILD PARTICIPATION
  • QUALITY EDUCATION
  • WATER & SANITATION
  • CHILD PARTICIPATION
  • ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE
TO ERADICATE GLOBAL POVERTY THE ABOVE STEPS ARE TO BE NECESSARILY IMPLEMENTED BY EVERY COUNTRY EXPERIENCING POVERTY AND THE WORLD SHOULD JOIN HANDS TO HELP CERTAIN COUNTRIES WHICH CAN'T EVEN COPE WITH EXTREME POVERTY ON THEIR OWN. THE WORLD SHOULD TAKE GLOBAL EXTREME POVERTY AS THE BIGGEST & WORST PANDEMIC THE WORLD HAS EVER OR WILL EVER CATCH SIGHT OF.

Education not only teaches basic skills such as reading and writing but helps develop important qualities such as strong communication and social skills.
